Common issues
- "Your Mac agent is offline." Start it on your Mac with
apple-messages-agent runand make sure the Mac is awake (tip:caffeinate -swhile plugged in). - macOS can't read your message history. Give your terminal app Full Disk Access: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Full Disk Access → enable it, then restart the agent. This is required to read your local iMessage/SMS history.
- macOS says it can't control Messages or Contacts. System Settings → Privacy & Security → Automation → allow your terminal app to control Messages and Contacts. This is required to send a message and to read or add contacts.
- Older messages missing. Confirm your conversations are synced to this Mac — enable Messages in iCloud on both the iPhone and the Mac (Messages → Settings → iMessage → Enable Messages in iCloud).
- Connector shows unauthorized. Remove and re-add the connector in your assistant to refresh the OAuth grant.
- A message went to the wrong person. Every send is confirmed in your assistant first and goes to one recipient at a time — check the recipient in the confirmation before you approve, and name the exact contact or conversation when you ask.
Uninstall / revoke access
- Stop and unpair the Mac agent: quit the process and delete
~/.apple-messages-agent.json. - Remove the connector in your assistant's settings.
- Email us to delete your account and all associated data.
